How can this be, in front of me
I see this beast with horn.
Horn so bright on head tonight
The legend Unicorn

A thought says this just cannot be
Insanity has set a foot on me
I blink my eyes, then realize
His winged regal majesty

Our thoughts entwine. I read his mind
A great distance he has traveled
To tell mankind, mankind so blind
Life’s mysteries unraveled

Men are there that do not hear
Their only thought is greed
To capture horse is their dark course
They set about their deed

An arrow speeds on in the dark
For wounds make easy capture
It misses mark, it pierces heart
Our royal friend does falter

Lying down, he makes the sound
Of death. He’s overtaken.
His message clear, we would not hear
His gift to man was taken.
